Hot & Cool NEC Jazz 40th Summit featuring some of today’s top performers: keyboardist JOHN MEDESKI and drummer BILLY MARTIN of Medeski, Martin & Wood with turntable maestro DJ LOGIC; Parliament/Funkadelic founding member keyboardist BERNIE WORRELL whose new group SociaLybrium is taking the world by storm, MacArthur Fellowship winning composer/pianist RAN BLAKE, drummer ANTON FIG who appears nightly on the David Letterman show, “contemporary bluegrass prodigy” and NEC student SARAH JAROSZ who has earned wide acclaim for her debut CD Song Up in Her Head, jazz vocal legend DOMINIQUE EADE, and the joyous and bold music of LAKE STREET DIVE (Rachael Price, Michael Calabrese, Bridget Kearney, Mike Olson). MC for the evening will be WBGO’s Josh Jackson.

This performance is part of a week-long New York celebration of NEC’s first-in-the-nation Jazz Studies program. With a faculty that has included 5 MacArthur "genius" grant winners and 4 NEA Jazz Masters, and alumni that reads like a who’s who of jazz, NEC’s Jazz Studies Program has spawned numerous Grammy winning composers and performers. As Mike West writes in JazzTimes: “Four decades after its founding, NEC’s jazz studies department is among the most acclaimed and successful in the world; so says the roster of visionary artists that have comprised both its faculty and alumni.”

Proceeds from this event will support jazz scholarships at NEC.
