Pau Donés was born in the Spanish region of Aragón in 1966, but he was raised in Barcelona. He started making music when he was really young. After gaining experience playing with several bands, he had to wait until he was thirty to devote himself to his vocation, body and soul. His definitive band, Jarabe de Palo, released its first album in 1996 and success came to them in the most unexpected way just one year later, when they released their crashing hit La Flaca. The song sold some million copies worldwide, it became the hit of 1997 summer and Pau, although he felt grateful to the song, devoted his efforts to prove that his music was no mere flash in the pan.

His second album, Depende (1999), repeated the success of the first, elaborating on their ironic and witty lyricism, able to connect with both Latin audiences and Italian ones. It sold more than a half million copies in less than one month. The more conceptual album De vuelta y vuelta (2001) was equally popular in Latin America, France and Italy, and in 2002 he shut himself away with his band to shape their fourth album, Bonito (Dro, 2003), which meant a return to positivism and received contributions by Mártires del Compás, flamenco female vocalist Elena Andújar and Jarabe de Palo´s Italian friend Jovanotti. In autumn 2004, Pau presented a tour to promote his new album, 1 m2, a definitive recording including contributions of Jorge Drexler, Lucrecia or Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders).

If they look back, Jarabe de Palo can boast of huge sales, prizes (Spanish Music Awards, Ondas Awards...) very welcome videos, at least one song that will go down in Latin music history as a real anthem, Grammy nominations, songs in Italian and English and collaborations with La Vieja Trova Santiaguera, Antonio Vega, Ketama, Vico C or the queen Celia Cruz (they collaborated in the soundtrack of El Milagro de P. Tinto). Pau has paid homage to Peret contributing to a tribute album, he has written songs for Ricky Martin and has been the star in a video by American artist Alanis Morissette. Together with their long-time producer Joe Dworniak (Radio Futura, Juan Perro), Jarabe de Palo has proved with their five releases that it is possible to succeed (in the charts, in life) without losing your principles. It is possible to succeed being authentic. Let them serve as a model.
