Paula Atherton

Here she is once again dancing the funk right off everyone's dancing shoes: saxtress Paula Atherton. The lady has a new label (Maurice White's Kalimba Music), Paula Athertonsome slammin' contributions from one of the coolest guitarist around, Nick Colionne, lovely trumpeter Cindy Bradley, and the wonderfully talented, equally lovely keyboardist Gail Jhonson. Couple that with that same seductive, crystal clear vocal style that has brought her this far and an album of all new, all original material - Ear Candy -- and I think we can look for a chart topper here.

Kicking it off with the funky "Pocket Full of Funk," this party wastes no time getting into full swing. Others follow like "Bee to A Flower" (truly one to get those feet excited and certainly one of my faves) and "Breakdown." Of course, this wouldn't be a Paula Atherton CD without some of that saucy, seductive, R&Bish slow jam groove found here on tracks like "Without You" and "Someone's Gonna Break My Heart" (the latter has a little pop flavor to it, as well). She also tosses in a little touch of Brazil and some great flute work on the rhythmic, up-tempo "Carnivale."

This release marks her fourth, and each just seems to take the listener a little bit farther into the fascinating sound-rich world of this now so well-defined saxtress. That her fortunes are blossoming so well (new label, notable luminaries signing on to contribute) only further proves her to be more than ready to share the upper rungs of that wonderful C-jazz ladder. It is also evident that her style and material are irresistibly charming. Ear Candy ...mmm, mmm good. -Ronald Jackson

Adam Hawley

It has been an exciting past year for Guitarist Adam Hawley, who's debut record "Just The Beginning" was released on March 18. The first single 35th St. ft Eric Darius had the longest run at #1 on Billboard in 2016. Since then the second single "Joy Ride" co-written and produced with Greg Manning is currently #10 on Billboard with a bullet. And Adam has been named both Smooth Jazz News and JazzTrax Debut Artist of the Year.

Adam signed with Kalimba Music (founded by Maurice White of Earth, Wind, & Fire) in August 2015. His first offering on the Kalimba label features Darius along with Euge Groove, Brian Culbertson, Gerald Albright, and Michael Lington.

Adam is also known as a prolific sideman, appearing with a who's who list of artists in a wide variety of genres. Credits include Dave Koz, Jennifer Lopez, Brian Culbertson, Natalie Cole, Gerald Albright, Dave Koz and Friends Cruise, and American Idol to name just a few.

He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California and currently teaches at Musician's Institute, Chaffey College, and Saddleback College.

Cindy Bradley

Calling her 2009 debut Bloom proved prophetic, as the multi-talented performer blossomed into a powerful and charismatic presence at radio and on the contemporary jazz festival circuit, with 6 #1 Billboard singles along the way. Cindy performed everywhere from the River Raisin' Jazz Festival in Monroe, Michigan to the Dubai Jazz Fest. She won Best New Artist at the American Smooth Jazz Awards, Brass Player of the Year at the Contemporary Jazz Awards, and was named Debut Artist of the Year by the Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festival and Smooth Jazz News.

After earning a bachelor's degree in jazz studies from Ithaca College, she went to the New England Conservatory to study for her master's in jazz trumpet performance; at the conservatory, she studied with and was influenced by many jazz greats including John McNeil, Bob Brookmeyer, Jerry Bergonzi, George Russell and Steve Lacy. After earning her degrees, Cindy immediately headed to the New York City area and immersed herself in the vibrant jazz scene, discovering equal passions for straight ahead be-bop and contemporary jazz, as well as funk, Top 40, R&B and jazz fusion. The bands she was involved with played clubs as well as high profile events like the Emmy Awards and even the Super Bowl.

Cindy has impressed thousands of jazz loving adults as well over the years, playing such renowned events as the Big Bear Lake Jazz Festival, Omaha's Riverfront Jazz and Blues Festival, the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival in San Antonio and the North Carolina Wine and Jazz Festival.
