The Afro Sambas Ensemble

On the 50th anniversary of "Os Afro Sambas" groundbreaking Grammy win, an ensemble made up of New York's top contemporary musicians will pay homage to Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes Brazilian-jazz legacy.

World Guitar Master Andres Laprida , drummer Helio Schiavo, who was the key factor in the original sound of Baden Powell ,(one of Brazil's most respected and gifted guitar player and composer) , Singer, drummer, percussionist, and Bahia native Nanny Assis & Special Guest Joelma Batista team up to pay tribute to Brazilian jazz legends.

Andres Laprida

Introduced to the public at a young age by the Brazilian music masters Antonio Carlos Jobim , Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes, Argentine guitarist Andres Laprida has always had an affinity for the rhythms and sounds of Brazil. A prolific performer, composer and producer, he has racked up rave reviews from audiences, musicians and critics worldwide for his brilliant guitar skills. His unique sound matches any style, and Laprida has recorded with a wide range of artists, including Gato Barbieri, Phillipe Saisse, New London Consort Orchestra and DJ Spooky. At this appearance, Laprida will pay tribute to the samba sounds of Brazilian greats Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes.

Helio Schiavo

A thoroughly accomplished, self-taught musician, Helio Schiavo is proficient in all styles of drumming,from Brazilian to traditional and modern jazz to progressive-rock-fusion.

Embarking upon the international music scene at an early age,by 1967,he was the key factor,in the original sound of Baden Powell,one of Brazil's most respected and gifted guitar player and composer.As such,their association lasted through 1974,during which time they toured extensively througtout Europe and Japan,recording half a dozen on studios and "live"albuns together.

Since 1974, Helio has recorded and toured the world with virtually every major traditional Brasilian music star. As such,he has colaborated with:Paulo Moura,A Fina Flor do Samba,Clara Nunes,Beth Carvalho,

Nanny Assis

Singer, drummer, percussionist, song-writer and Bahia native Nanny Assis, has played with such artists as Vinicius Cantauria, Eumeir Deodato. He is a master of Brazilian Jazz, Afro-Brazilian music and other popular and folkloric sounds from his homeland.

Nanny has performed in venues such as Palais Montcalm Quebec City, B.B.King, Blue Note NYC, Bimhuis Amsterdan, Jazz Standard, Birdland, Joe's Pub, Vortex Jazz Club London, Sunset Paris, Regattabar, Dakota Jazz Club, London's BBC, Queen Elizabeth Hall London, Blue Note in Milan, Rome Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Fregey Theatre in Belgium, TCA in Brazil, and Chiasso Festival in Switzerland.
