The classic rock bands of the late '60s and early '70s enjoy a unique place in popular music history. The Beatles had gone their separate ways, Britain had already gone through the blues boom, and psychedelia had made its impact. The possibilities were infinite. Wishbone Ash, one of the new breed of progressive rockers, was quick to seize the opportunity, and in 1969, the band was among those to take full advantage of this environment, producing its unique brand of melodic rock. 40 years later, having pioneered the use of twin lead guitars, the band has gained worldwide recognition, based firmly on a regime of relentless touring. A quintessential road band, Wishbone Ash is also an acknowledged influence on many other legendary rock outfits, including Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Power and melody have made the Ash a hard act to follow, while the band is currently being discovered by new generations of loyal rock fans. An exceptional recording and touring career has seen this powerhouse outfit weather many changes in record labels, personnel, and musical trends, and it remains strong today with most of its vast catalogue intact on CD, an award-winning website, and a date sheet that is the envy of many other bands. Recording highlights are, of course, the multi-million selling 1972 album Argus, considered to be one of the all-time best classic rock albums, together with Pilgrimage (1971) and New England (1976).

Wishbone Ash recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a live DVD recording of its performance at London's Shepherds Bush Empire Theatre. After such a long and influential career, the band continues to release recordings that both reimagine its hit songs and break new ground. 2007's The Power of Eternity, an album of new material, garnered praise from critics and fan alike. In 2008, at the behest of XM Satellite Radio in the U.S., the band also produced a fresh performance of the 1972 album Argus for a small studio audience. The performance was recorded and released in 2008 as Argus "Then Again" Now. Having recently released its latest original album, Elegant Stealth, in 2011, the band continues to cement its status as one of the most iconic and original outfits in the history of British rock.
