With the passing of Levon Helm on April 19th, 2012, the world lost a musical visionary, one of the most iconic drummers and vocalists in the history of American music. Rising to prominence as a member of roots rock outfit The Band, Helm's creative drumming and rough, throaty voice with its signature country twang appeared on many of the group's biggest hits, including "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Weight," and "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down." The band's 1976 farewell concert, The Last Waltz, was chronicled by Martin Scorsese and is widely regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever made.

After The Band disbanded, Helm continued to perform prolifically. He cut his debut solo album, Levon Helm & the RCO All Stars, in 1977 and released several more solo discs, three in the ensuing years and two within the last five - Dirt Farmer (2007) and Electric Dirt (2009). He also reunited with The Band in the mid-'80s, recording several additional albums with the group in the '90s. Shortly after the turn of the millennium, he also began flexing his muscles as a music impresario, founding the eclectic Midnight Ramble concert series that eventually spawned tours and Grammy-winning albums. Ramble at the Ryman, a Grammy-winning CD/DVD that captures Helm's Midnight Ramble concert at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, came out last year.

Tonight at B.B. King Blues Club, members of The THE BAND Band will gather to pay special tribute to the music and memories of Levon Helm. The THE BAND Band brings the music of The Band alive with authentic, true-to-form renditions of the group's legendary repertoire, including signature Helm classics like "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek." This group of veteran musicians showcases the astounding breadth and depth of The Band's distinctively original Americana music, mixing the well-known hits with obscure gems. Don't miss what is sure to be a memorable and moving tribute to an American music legend. A portion of the ticket sales for the show will be donated to The American Cancer Society in memory of Helm.
