Bio

From her first No. 1 recording "He's A Rebel" through her string of label hits with legendary producer Phil Spector, including "Da Doo Ron Ron," "He's Sure the Boy I'm Gonna Marry," and "Christmas Baby Please Come Home," all the way to the countless songs singing backup for artists like Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick, Cher, Luther Vandross, and Aretha Franklin, Darlene Love's voice is "embedded in the history of rock 'n' roll" (The New York Times). She has received great national press exposure, including a feature in People Magazine, a CNN documentary on her life, and appearances on numerous television shows, including an over 20-year annual holiday stint on the David Letterman Show.

Over the course of her legendary career, Love has been hailed as the greatest singer in pop music. She was just a high school sophomore in Los Angeles when she was discovered in a gospel choir and asked to join a burgeoning girl group called The Blossoms, who began recording for Phil Spector. Soon thereafter, other artists like Sam Cooke were attracted to her powerful sound, giving her the chance to work throughout the '60s and '70s with such diverse artists as The Beach Boys, The Mamas & The Papas, Tom Jones, The Righteous Brothers, and Sonny & Cher. She has also proven herself a talented actress on both stage and screen, appearing in the Lethal Weapon films and in Broadway shows like Grease, the Tony-nominated production Leader of the Pack, and the Tony-winning show Hairspray.

Incredibly, Love's solo efforts have been even more successful than her legendary backup work. Her standout albums include her gospel release Unconditional Love (1998) and Age of Miracles (1999), recorded live in New York City. It's Christmas, of Course, her first Christmas album and latest studio release, came out in 2007 to critical acclaim. Since that disc, Love has also released a live album titled The Concert of Love (2010) and a greatest hits compilation, released just last year. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, she continues to blaze trail of success in the music industry.
