Jimi Hendrix documentary filmmaker and promoter David Kramer returns to B.B. King Blues Club & Grill to present his seventh annual Jimi Hendrix Birthday Tribute Concert. It's hard to believe Jimi Hendrix would have been 70 years old this year! This year's lineup of performers includes:
Randy Hansen - Without a doubt one of the premiere Hendrix afficionados on the planet, Randy Hansen has been paying homage to Jimi Hendrix for over 30 years. Born in Seattle WA. (Hendrix territory) in '54, his music appeared in the 1979 Blockbuster "Apocalypse Now".
Since the '70's he's been stunning audiences around the world recreating the spirit, the show, and more importantly the sounds of Jimi Hendrix! He is a force to be reckoned with by all of Jimi's former band members including: Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, Billy Cox, and Buddy Miles, as well as throughout the music business with people like Frank Marino, Uli Roth, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Leon Hendrix - Brings the VooDoo to the table! "I never stood in Jimi's shadow, Jimi kept me in the shade," says Jimi's brother Leon.
Gil Parris - Grammy Nominated Guitar Virtuoso has backed people like Joe Cocker, Dr. John, Bobby Caldwell, and Diane Schur just to name a few.
Ducks Can Groove - Direct from Sweden, this band always does justice to the Hendrix catalogue. Lead guitarist Stefan Edfeldt's Hendrix drenched solos lean toward the direction Hendrix was headed in 1970 with a funky jazz fusion as exemplified in their last two CD's of original material.
Andre Lassalle - The musical Director for the evening has recorded with Miles Davis, performed with members of P-Funk, Vernon Reid, Bobby Womack, Don Covay, the Ghetto Fighters, Buddy Miles, Frank Marino, etc. He presently tours with Burnt Sugar.
Patrick Stanfield Jones - From Teaneck, NJ, growing up neighbors with the Isley Brothers, Patrick has played guitar with the Isley Bros. and Buddy Miles, as did Hendrix himself.
Vernon Reid - he founder and primary songwriter of the rock band Living Colour, Reid was named #66 on Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
Paul Caruso - Caruso was actually a friend of Hendrix's from his days in Greenwich Village and played harmonica with Hendrix on occasion.
